چکیده
Fuel–ablator mix has been established as a major performance degrading effect in the burning plasma regime of recent inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments. As such, study fuel–ablator with experiments and simulations can provide valuable insight for our understanding these establish path even higher yields increased robustness. We present novel high-yield experimental ICF design that is motivated by measuring ice–ablator CH ablator instead high-density carbon (HDC) [B. Bachmann et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 275001 (2022)]. review more detail describe modeling assumptions parameters used to obtain agreement data from implosion burn mix. Using this model calibrated posteriori data, we an uses predicted achieve better than experiment achieved net target gain 1.5 HDC. Because hydrodynamic instabilities are greatly reduced new design, also expect high reproducibility at same adiabat current record yield

Shock Convergence and Mix Dynamics in Inertial Confinement Fusion
Understanding the phenomena of shock propagation and of turbulent mix induced by Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability growth is of critical importance for ignition and high gain in inertial confinement fusion (ICF). Capsule assembly and hot-spot formation require careful timing of multiple shocks to maximize hot-spot heating while minimizing heating of the main fuel. Unmitigated mixing of the main ...

Mixing of plastic ablator material, doped with Cu and Ge dopants, deep into the hot spot of ignition-scale inertial confinement fusion implosions by hydrodynamic instabilities is diagnosed with x-ray spectroscopy on the National Ignition Facility. The amount of hot-spot mix mass is determined from the absolute brightness of the emergent Cu and Ge K-shell emission. The Cu and Ge dopants placed a...

Abstract: In this paper, combining the Maxwell equations with the electron balanceequation, we obtain the inverse braking radiation absorption coefficient in a laser fusioncorona plasma. For a fixed plasma temperature, variations of the absorption coefficientversus the penetration depth into the plasma are illustrated numerically for differentvalues of laser wavelength. ...
متن کاملDependence of shell mix on feedthrough in direct drive inertial confinement fusion.
The mixing of cold, high-density shell plasma with the low-density, hot spot plasma by the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in inertial confinement fusion is experimentally shown to correlate with the calculated perturbation feedthrough from the ablation surface to the inner shell surface. A fourfold decrease in the density of shell material in the mix region of direct drive implosions of gas filled...
